For the past several years Bull and Flo Stewart, owners of Columbia City Fitness, have hosted powerlifting contests around the Puget Sound region. The husband and wife team are both champion powerlifters. In fact, the September edition of "Powerlifting USA" named Bull as the fifth greatest lifter of all time noting his numerous American and International records as well as his upstanding, modest attitude that has made him a great ambassador of the sport, and fitness in general.
On Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Rainier Valley Cultural Center, 3515 S. Alaska St., the Stewarts will share their passion for physical fitness with the first annual Columbia City Classic, a professional event sponsored by U.S.A. Powerlifting open to ages 14 and up.
"We have about 50 competitors, and about half of them are from the Columbia City area," noted Bull, adding that may athletes are traveling from as far as Canada. "We're excited to show people that fitness is for all walks of life. Whether your 14 or 78, there's fitness options for you. That's what we try and promote, fitness and unity."
Tickets for the event are $5 at the door. For more information, call Columbia City Fitness at 725-7894.
