• Rediscover Northeast 65th Street, if you haven’t. The once weather-beaten boulevard on the way to Sand Point is full of interesting cafes and shops, anchored by Third Place Books. The street’s conjunction with Roosevelt is a fascinating mish-mash of cafes and restaurants, alternative medicine spaces and one of the city’s more interesting spirituality-oriented bookstores, East West Bookshop.
• The University District Farmers Market Saturdays, 9 a. m-2 p. m. in the playground at the University Heights Center for the Community, on the corner of University Way Northeast and Northeast 50th St. More than 50 vendors. www.seattlefarmersmarkets.org/markets/udistrict
• The University District Street Fair is a big, colorful event that happens on the third full weekend in May between Northeast 41st Street and Northeast 50th Street. www.udistrictstreetfair.org
• Walk the University of Washington campus. The University moved from its downtown location here in 1895 with the new Denny Hall as its schoolhouse. The 1909 Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition laid the footprint for the modern campus. Construction on “The Quad” began in 1916 and was finished in 1939.

• Hang out on The Ave. There are plenty of good, inexpensive, ethnic eateries along here, and some one-of-a-kind shops. The Ave is down to one used (and very good) bookstore, Magus Books, 1408 Northeast 42nd Street to complement University Bookstore, though Half Price Books, a worthy destination, is within walking distance at 4709 Roosevelt Way Northeast.
